Job Description


Catapult Learning LLC, an industry leader in educational services, provides blended learning solutions for high school drop-out recovery programs.  Students spend time in learning centers as they complete online course work to earn their diplomas. Teachers provide online instruction for the Catapult Academy Dropout Recovery Program.


We are seeking part-time Virginia state-certified online teachers for its virtual high school program. The online teacher is responsible for providing virtual instruction, academic support and guidance to high school students seeking a high school diploma.  The teacher is responsible for implementing instructional activities that meet the objectives and policies of each specific program and maintaining effective communication with students and academic associates. Teachers for will possess the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues, students and parents virtually; personalize instruction and encourage student success; seamlessly provide instruction and student support using online curriculum and student management tools in a virtual environment; and exhibit professional and ethical standards when dealing with students.

Teachers must possess or have direct access to all necessary tools to perform their jobs, including a java enabled computer with broadband Internet access. (Chromebooks and Ipads are not sufficient to support the learning platform.)

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Provides an online classroom environment that encourages active student participation in the learning experience.
  • Engages students through virtual discussions, group interaction and collaboration within the virtual learning environment.
  • Maximizes the Gradebook functionality to track student performance, grades and Mastery Threshold for each graded assignment. 
  • Provides individualized instruction and feedback for all students.
  • Coordinates with facilitator and school director regarding virtual school policy, instructional guidelines and student progress.
  • Communicates with students regarding grades, performance and learning objectives.
  • Maintains approved office hours and communicates regularly with parents, community and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Logs into class daily to post announcements, answers questions and to offer assistance to students.
  • Identifies and refers students to supervisors when tutoring or special assistance may be needed.
  • Utilizes instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Ensures student growth is ongoing and appropriate for the subject area and program.
  • Responds to all student inquiries within 24-48 hours of receipt.

Job Requirements

Skills and Qualifications - required 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a (current) state teaching license in the appropriate area of instruction.
  • Pass a background check (includes fingerprinting).
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Self-motivated and accepts responsibility.
  • Ability to motivate students in an online environment.
  • Knowledge of online instruction including an understanding of effective online teaching practices and characteristics of successful distance learners.
  • Ability to motivate students in an online environment.
  • Operational knowledge of the Internet and web-based technologies.
  • Patience and flexibility.
  • All required certifications.
  • One year of teaching experience.

Skills and Qualifications - preferred

  • Two (2) or more years of teaching experience
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience working with drop-out population
  • Prior online teaching experience
  • Ability to learn new technologies and internet functions
  • Licensed in both GA and FL or willingness to obtain licensure in multiple states
