Job Description


We are seeking an exceptional leader to develop and direct the company’s efficacy research strategy, including the design and supervision of innovative large- and smaller-scale studies, both quantitative and qualitative, in diverse environments. This position calls for a research expert with the abilities to think strategically, delegate responsibility, and communicate effectively. Reporting to the Head of Education, this role is responsible for all program effectiveness research, as well as internal quality assurance data collection and reporting initiatives. The VP, Research & Evaluaiton is central to fulfilling the company’s mission to create brighter futures for students, regardless of the learning barriers or other challenges they face.



  • Drive, develop, and manage company’s educational efficacy research
  • Own all phases of research, which includes setting objectives, determining study design, identifying research partners and producing/editing written reports
  • Develop data collection policies and practices, and monitor uniform data collection compliance and quality across all Catapult Learning programs
  • Build and maintain cross-program Education Quality Index (EQI)
  • Manage all internal and external customer satisfaction survey research
  • Develop and prepare internal reports of status, progress and outcomes of evaluation activities
  • Synthesize and communicate ideas effectively to a wide variety of internal and external audiences
  • Lead collaboration between the research department and other internal and external stakeholders, including school district personnel, the sales team, and the product team when:
    o Designing and conducting research studies
    o Disseminating research findings
    o Prioritizing product features and enhancements based on performance data and research outcomes
    o Initiating best practices and policies pertaining to research and drive the awareness of research-proven educational methodology
    o Crafting success stories and communicating customer outcomes

  • Manage the Research and Evaluation team staff and interns, providing ongoing coaching, feedback and support to build their capacity to further the mission of the organization

  • Publish articles based on research and present at conferences

Job Requirements

The preferred candidate will hold a Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant field (e.g. learning sciences, data science, educational psychology, program evaluation, neuroscience, cognitive science) and have: 

  • Knowledge and experience of program evaluation principles, theories, concepts and practices
  • Experience designing, working with, and analyzing data and frameworks, and an understanding of statistical principles and methods for data analysis
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively summarize and present research findings in written material for a lay audience
  • Strong skills in designing all facets of a research project to answer complex questions that inform educational practice
  • Excellent analytic skills, including expertise in statistical analysis and experience using SPSS and/or SAS
  • Experience successfully designing and running survey research projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage competing tasks, deadlines, requirements, and decisions
  • Passion for education, a team mentality, creativity, and a positive “can-­do,” “yes-and” spirit
  • Record of publishing results of education research and making effective live presentations to professional audiences – preferred but not required
  • Formative evaluation and assessment background with K-12 education programs – preferred but not required
