Overview

Bilingual Trainer, Nutrition Education      

Full and Part time

Overview

Multi-site, school-based position. Implements training programs for students, educational and administrative staff and parents. Provides awareness of the concepts of nutrition education to develop proper nutrition and eating habits. Bilingual communication required - please specify language in your cover letter.


Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implements nutrition education training programs and training modules for all school-age children.
  • Works with children and parents to develop proper nutrition and eating habits.
  • Prepares food items needed for taste testing or sampling.
  • Organizes and participates in workshops for nutrition education.
  • Support coordinators with demonstration lessons for individual classroom teachers as requested.
  • Conducts nutrition education training for teachers, nurses and school-based administrative staff.
  • Conducts parent workshops in schools on basic nutrition concepts.
  • Collects and properly completes documentation for program sustainability.
  • Administers evaluative tools for nutrition education programs to assist with the evaluation of program effectiveness.
  • Acts as a liaison for School Health/Wellness Councils.

Core Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of nutrition education.
  • Knowledge of food values and nutrition.
  • Knowledge of the resources and services available to school personnel in need of nutrition education training.
  • Ability to implement nutrition education programs for students, parents, administrative and instructional staff.
  • Ability to prepare materials for training.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public health, education, nutrition or dietetics.
  • Two year of professional experience in nutrition or dietetics which has included conducting nutrition education training or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Provide school staff with strategies to support a school environment that encourages and promotes healthy behaviors.
  • Capable of physical aspects of work, including lifting and stair climbing.
  • Proficiency with using email and MS Office applications.
  • Ability to acquire, maintain and submit all required clearances for school personnel.
  • Must be willing to travel locally. Valid driver’s license, insurance and car is beneficial.

Requires lifting up to 40 lbs., climbing multiple flights of stairs in school buildings
