Job Description


Catapult Learning, a leading provider of special education programming to school districts nationwide, is hiring Certified Special Education Teachers for a new school in Peoria, IL. The High Road School of Peoria, to open in August 2019, is a state-approve non-public special education school. The school will serve students with social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties, kindergarten through 12th grade, in a highly-structured, therapeutic environment with a focus on rigorous academics.

What you will do as a Teacher for Catapult Learning:

Special Education Teachers provide instructional services with the necessary educational expertise in reading, mathematics, writing, and related areas. Teachers diagnose learning skill deficits and deliver prescribed instructional delivery methods. Special Education Teachers consult with school personnel to coordinate efforts in providing services to students and will communicate and have conferences with parents providing information on student progress. Responsibilities include: 

  • Develop and maintain individualized skill-appropriate lesson plans
  • Ensure the supervision of students, including escorting students safely to and from classroom or to mobile/trailer classroom
  • Attend training sessions, pass content assessment, and deliver designated instructional models and strategies in readiness, reading, mathematics, and/or writing skills to eligible students through utilization of Catapult designed materials and educational strategies
  • Establish and maintain student forms and files as required
  • Attend and document conferences, meetings and trainings with Supervisors, classroom teachers, principals, and parents as required
  • Maintain inventory of educational materials and supplies


Education and Requirements:

  • Current Special Education Certification for the state of IL (LBS1 certification)
  • An emergency license through the state of IL should you meet the following

Job Requirements

- Already in posession of a professional education license in another teaching content area
- Competed course in 'Survey of Exceptional Children'
- Completed at least one other course in either (1) Characteristics of Special Education Students; (3) Methods of Teacher Special Education; or (3) Psychological Assessment for Children with Disabilities
- Must be able to submit a plan to complete all coursework within the next three years 
  • We seek teachers who are passionate about understanding that all children can learn, a positive and enthusiastic professional with a service attitude for both internal and external customers
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills preferred
  • Working environment includes walking, climbing stairs and light lifting. Most positions are programs within the school setting
