Job Description


School Social Worker to provide mental health services to students with Emotional Disabilities.


  • Area #1: Counseling/Meetings


    * Providing individual counseling sessions to students regarding specific behaviors.

    * Providing group sessions for students regarding general topics.

    * Holding make-up sessions according to specific situations.

    * Working with teachers to create socio-emotional goals/summaries for each student’s IEP.

    * Attending IEP meetings to discuss academic/behavioral goals/objectives.

    * Attending monthly clinical counseling meetings with other social workers.

    * Discussing various social worker situations and to build a rapport with each other.

    * Attending wraparound/review meetings to discuss academic/behavioral progress and other needed services for the student.

    * Holding weekly behavioral meetings with teachers about students’ behavior progress.

    * Creating Behavioral Intervention Plans/Contracts with teachers to reduce and/or eliminate negative behaviors or to increase positive behaviors.

    * Consulting with school psychiatrist concerning behavior changes, medication issues, high risk forms, and psychiatric evaluations.

    Area #2: Behavioral


    * Directing/sending students to the quiet room.

    * Prepare necessary documentation to chart student’s behaviors of concern (e.g.: Incident Reports, High Risk Evaluation Forms, etc.).

    * Developing and implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) for students with extreme behaviors that extend over a significant amount of time and/or cannot be modified with just our behavioral system.

    * Communicate with Teachers regarding any behavioral areas of concern.

    * Implementing school-wide level system.

    * Appropriately utilize therapeutic interventions (therapeutic holds, seclusion, BIP)

    * Holding all students in the building accountable for their behavior by following the school wide behavioral model.

    * Completing Incident/High Risk reports, contacting parents and filing them.

    * Conducting peer mediation meetings to settle conflicts among students.

    * Contacting parents about behavior progress (during the school year)

    * Contacting doctors about behavior changes in students

    * Consult regularly with school Psychiatrist and assist with needs of the case load

    * Faxing behavioral reports (incident/high risk reports) to team individuals in the community (parental consent required)

    * Creating a contract and discussing responsibilities of students who are on Gold Level

    * Ensuring Gold Level students receive their privileges, attend weekly meetings and maintain appropriate behaviors

    Area #3: School


    * Aiding front office staff with arrival/dismissal of students.

    * Contacting parents when students are absent and making sure all conversations are recorded in the contact log.

    * Home visits (accompanied by Teacher and/or Administrator)

    * Assisting in the completion of truancy reports.

    * Typing/filing therapy notes in student’s confidential binders.

    * Marking quarterly progress on each students IEP

    * Returning/Making phone calls to important contacts regarding students.

Job Requirements

Master's Degree in Social Work

LGSW minimum requirement

Must have demonstrated ability to communicate with students, families and school personnel. Excellent time management, organizational, verbal and written communications skills are essential. Computer literacy preferred.


Light lifting, walking, climbing stairs. Most programs are in school settings.
