Job Description



The Nutrition Outreach Specialist conducts outreach to bring more parents and caregivers into Eat.Right.Now programming. This is a dual-focused position with activities focused on community, school and public events, such as health fairs, community days, and events held at key organizations that attract and serve parents, caregivers, and community members, as well as direct nutrition education for parents.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and outreach to school and community organizations in targeted communities.
  • Provide community education about Nutrition programming available through Eat.Right.Now.
  • Promote Eat.Right.Now. and their services at various community outreach events such as health fairs, and community days.
  • Maintain and track outreach data, including dates and types of events, number of individuals reached through group or one-on-one communication, and referrals made
  • Conducts parent workshops in schools on basic nutrition concepts.
  • Collects and properly completes documentation for program sustainability.
  • Administers evaluative tools for nutrition education programs to assist with the evaluation of program effectiveness.
  • Acts as a liaison for School Health/Wellness Councils.

Core Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of nutrition education.
  • Knowledge of food values and nutrition.
  • Ability to implement nutrition education programs for multiple audiences.
  • Ability to prepare materials for training.


Job Requirements

Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public health, education, nutrition or dietetics.
    • Two years of professional experience in nutrition or dietetics which has included conducting nutrition education training or equivalent combination of training and experience.

      • Ability to work independently.
      • Flexibility in scheduling including school day, and out of school time hours.
      • Strong communicator and collaborator.
      • Personal commitment to promoting and being a role model for healthy eating and physical activity.
      • Provide school staff with strategies to support a school environment that encourages and promotes healthy behaviors.
      • Capable of physical aspects of work, including lifting and stair climbing.
      • Proficiency with using email and MS Office applications.
      • Ability to acquire, maintain and submit all required clearances for school personnel.
  • Must be willing to travel locally. Valid driver’s license, insurance and car is beneficial.
