Job Description


Instructional Excellence Coach for the North East Region: The goal of the IEC role is to ensure high quality instruction in all of our intervention programs. The IEC is responsible for building the instructional leadership capacity of program supervisors while modeling the Teacher Observation Process, our Core Instructional Model, and effective coaching and professional development strategies.


Observations/Data Gathering:

  • Conduct an average of five regular classroom observations along with post observation conversations and coaching sessions per week with program supervisors (formal and growth) to measure and ensure the instructional health of their programs (focus on watch list programs)
  • Collect and analyze data to determine specific program, supervisor, and teacher needs – build capacity for supervisors on how to do this process.
  • Conduct 2 compliance checks per year in their programs (focus on watch list programs)


  • Deliver training for new and existing program supervisors
  • Review and provide feedback/edits to the Manager of Training and Operations on all training materials and webinars
  • Conduct teacher training as a “Train the Trainer” model for program supervisors to build their capacity around topic selection and planning for effective professional development that is driven by OWL data
  • Contribute to regional meetings – content selection based on data, observations, needs, goals, etc.
  • Contribute to training resources on CatapultOne. Collaborate with the Manager of Training and Operations and the Manager of Instructional Technology to provide topics, review materials, give feedback, and keep all materials updated.

Working with supervisors:

  • Engage in goal setting process with supervisors (SMART goals) and monitor their progress on an ongoing basis
  • Co-plan with program supervisors in assigned regions to provide ongoing training and coaching support for their teachers (using data and modeling CIM). IECs need to implement a gradual release of responsibility so that supervisors have their capacity built and take on this responsibility.
    • For example: IEC delivers one session as a model, they co-deliver the next one, supervisor delivers the rest
  • Train program supervisors in their assigned regions on how to create growth and support plans for identified teachers using the Teacher Tiering process. Monitor during subsequent support sessions.
  • Provide program start-up support (as needed and approved). IEC responsible for participating in start-up calls and providing start-up checklist to kick-off the process.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education (K-12) preferred coupled with 5 years classroom teaching experience required; experience with at-risk populations preferred
  • Instructional coaching or training experience highly preferred
  • Prior Catapult Learning teaching and/or supervisory experience within designated region is preferred
  • Self-starter with the ability to influence and shape work, progress, and processes without explicit ownership or control
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, comfortable with Internet-based tools and applications
